Chair’s report – AGM – October 2023

This report has given me a chance to reflect on the past twelve months, and to share my thoughts with you all.

Since our last AGM we have had the pleasure of welcoming Kate on to the committee, now a team of eight. However, Rose and Jenny wish to withdraw from the committee at our next AGM. We will miss them both.

We were delighted to welcome Joyce Mc Andrew for a dance day in April, and this proved very popular with those who came along.

Also in May, Maria and Keryn organised an afternoon of dancing in Gartmore , in remembrance of Joyce Whitelaw.

St Andrews weekend took place in June, with Anne -Lise leading and teaching some beautiful dances. A good time was had by all. Maria liaised with the university, and the whole team helped to make this a successful weekend.

In addition, we held a teachers practice day in July, where we were able to fine tune some new dances, which was really helpful. I chose to share a new dance learned in Wydale from Lilly.

Some of us were due to dance with Karen Michaelson in August, but due to the host developing Covid, the organisers had to cancel. A further date was set, but was also cancelled as Karen suffered a fall.

Centrepiece from Findhorn, organised a day of dancing as part of the Edinburgh Fringe, and we were thrilled when Kate and Katie offered to teach a session, alongside Laura Shannon, Shakeh, Peter Vallance, and Brant.

Finally, Dee and Nawal, made a return visit to hold two dance days; one in Sauchie, and the second in Middleton. Two very different programmes, but both well received.

As always, the team are very busy planning dance events throughout 2024, and into 2025, and a big thanks goes to each of you for all your hard work. A truly amazing team. We are the envy of many English dance teachers, who would love a team like ours.

Our circle is open, but unbroken. May we go in peace until we meet again.

Lynne Barlow, Chair

“Thank you for sharing your joy of dancing with so many. What a wonderful day of dancing.”
